Hot take but if Miquella was a girl I don’t believe the discourse surrounding his character would have arose with the dlc ending. Or at least it wouldn’t have been so bad. Like his ‘crimes’ are definitely not worse than Marika’s and yet I rarely see anyone genuinely hating on her character for what she’s done. Because she’s an attractive woman and that’s all that matters to some people.

Like he’s not at all the worst we’ve seen in a souls game and yet people are treating him like the devil. Suspicious, if you ask me…

okay so ive actually been working on this AU since before SOTE even had a trailer lmao which meant i had to redesign most of SOTE to fit with the rest of the AU; i havent completely rewritten everything yet plot-wise so its a little wonky atm

basically its a tarnished!miquella AU where miquella (and by extension st trina) is reincarnated as a tarnished. as one might guess from the name. miquella didn't survive the cocooning in the haligtree so his soul was reborn while his now hollow shell remained in the haligtree. something else nestled inside the now empty empyrean body (similiar to shabriri and yura's situation) and began its own plotting while miquella's soul was lost in the sea of souls or whatever until he got reincarnated. who or what exactly body-napped miquella's corpse? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who knows

either way tarnished!miquella does the whole elden ring song and dance (with boc as a permanent travel companion cuz he has a special place in my heart (hence why he's on the character refs)) until before SOTE. Mohg isn't dead or anything but is pretty much stuck in eternal sleep. varre thinks miquella did it which he didnt and thru trina they figure out someone or something used sleeping mohg to enter the land of shadow. from there miquella follows whoever is responsible for perma-sleeping mohg (whether varre and/or others get to follow or not is still up for debate so *shrug*)

eventually miquella runs into people who claim to be following his footsteps, which. obviously makes no sense. miquella has never been to the land of shadow before. he then is approached by mimiquella (mimic miquella, which is how ive been calling fake miquella so i dont constantly have to say fake miquella & tarnished miquella) who tries to convince miquella to join them but miquella rejects them. mimiquella is also the one who has bewitched all of the followers into blinding following their lead, though miquella later manages to figure out how to break the bewitchment for good (despite being portrayed in the vid freyja & hornsent dont die or anything, they do get injured but arent killed)

and yeah thats pretty much what the video is about. mimiquella trying to convince miquella to join them while showing off all the fucked up cult stuff that is going on.

i might go back and color the frames in the video properly if i find the time and energy and motivation to do so, but for now take the vid as is + the character refs below

but there's no heart in it. it's charming, and pleasant, and objectively flawless; but there is not, cannot be, any feeling behind the words.

and miquella is aware of this. somewhere in the back of his mind, the thought occurs to him that he sounded different once, with grace notes and voice cracks and fumbled words. not perfect, perhaps, but...

miquella does not feel the pang of nostalgia he knows he would have felt once about this thought.

miquella cannot feel it.

and so it passes by, like a discordant note in an otherwise polished symphony, and his song continues into the night.

kind of tired of the unending argument of the morality of demigods. l like all their faults and heinous deeds and i like the shreds of humanity and kindness that shines through every now and then.

like im not making fun of people if theyre upset about the fact elden ring added more incest (god knows im literally a survivor and have been historically far more sensitive to depictions than i am now as a much more put together person, and i Was distressed by it when i first got into elden ring) but i AM making fun of the people who are now scrabbling to claim that incest was never happening and that consort is totally only political now that they know their cherubic fave was the one doing the incest the whole time. curious how you didnt hold this opinion 2 years ago when it was still abundantly implied that mogh was being mind controlled!

I am DYING for Shadow of the Erdtree to finally tell us more about Marika because she’s such an interesting character, and I need to know how much of her actions were her own and how much were the Elden Ring/Beast’s demands or control of her.

Slight spoilers under the cut and in tags.

Specifically, about all the conflicting things she does across the lore.

What betrayal did she make to establish the Golden Order? When she shattered the Elden Ring, did she remember her betrayal? Did she make a mistake?

What was her first rebellion? Was it sending away her army of warriors and Godfrey so she would no longer have to win the wars and slaughter all opposition? Or were they just another threat to the Golden Order that the Ring wanted gone?

Was it ordering Hewg, a misbegotten with no place in the Golden Order, to make a weapon to kill a God? Or was that the Ring wanting something for Godfrey or Radagon to use against their next threat?

Was it warning Radagon of their fusion, mere moments before it happened? Hoping he might flee as he realised the Order he worshipped was corrupt to the top?

Was it allowing Morgott and Mohg to live unharmed? Was the “privilege” of Royal Omen to be merely shunned and not brutalised a thing granted by herself or the beast? Was the Bairn fetish hers or Godfreys?

Was it Melina? A child born for the purpose of burning the Erdtree? Or was she given that later?

Was it the Shattering itself? Was Godwyn’s death the final straw? Did she abandon all of her careful plans and small acts for one furious and raging strike against the beast that had given her everything and taken it all at the same time?

Or, assuming she owned and did everything before of her own volition, was it the only slight, the only failure of the Golden Order she had worked so hard and ruled and slaughtered and betrayed so many to establish and hold up, that she was willing to tolerate?

I don’t know whether she’s a tortured vessel who rebelled all she could manage in every way or if she’s Straight Fucking Evil Queen but she’s cool either way and I need to know more.

radahn using godfrey’s stomp moves and miquella serving as his own serosh…. godfrey likely having had taken place in the crusades messmer helmed. its like. the parallels of repeating the past. esp also knowing radagon’s influence on miquella too (magic and also surely some ideals)

also re: my miquella observations on naivety… okay yeah. hes abundance but he also DOES work in with stagnation. because hes a perpetual child and he WILL NOT grow or learn. he will just keep trying things again and again towards a future that doesnt yet exist

ALSO. the fucking charm/bewitchment move in there, where the battle ends in a loss with “HEART STOLEN”. something something, actually what if the bewitchment was also utilized as mercy (“if you just follow what i say then i won’t have to kill you”). again it is that warped, child-like behavior of things

SotE SPOILERS!

Something I was just thinking about with Consort Radahn (which is making me mad for boss fight reasons, not lore reasons) and why he specifically was chosen as consort, is that (and stick with me here)--

--Miquella may have chosen Radahn because of. procreation reasons. we're gonna operate under the assumption here that Miquella can get pregnant because i see literally no reason why he couldn't. and a whole lot of Elden Lore is based around the unions of these gods/demigods, and the children that spring up from them. which is tied in with old but still real ideas of royal bloodline purity, as well as "who will bear me the best children". part of forging a new dynasty or realm or world order is also establishing a lineage or path for things to go down, we see that in Elden Ring it is very much based on blood. So if Miquella is planning on going through with his whole thing, he needs to have a way to ensure it continues after himself. He's king, Radahn's his consort, he's gotta have a princely heir or something.

Cause while it feels like the Radahn as consort choice comes kinda outta left field, and afaik they didn't have stuff going on between them prior to this, no emotional connection, the choice makes a lot more sense if you consider, if you're trying to do a godly union breeding project/keep the bloodline pure, Miquella's other options are pretty limited.

Malenia: Broken body, vessel for the Rot. And maybe there's a line Miquella won't cross. Mohg: Omen, accursed blood, Outer God devotee. Too clingy. Morgott: Omen, accursed blood. Would absolutely say no (but Miquella's already not worried about consent). Ranni: Doll body. Rykard: Eaten by a snake. Godrick: Grafted, only distantly connected to lineage, insane. Messmer: MIA, cursed with serpent since birth. Godwyn: I actually was going to rule him out due to being a corpse, but then I remembered that didn't stop Fia from doing the same sort of thing. But then I guess that means Godwyn's taken.

So that only really leaves Radahn, though he was driven mad by the rot. But then Miquella was already getting around that by transplanting him into Mohg's body, and now you have peak performance Radahn up and running, ready to mirror the union between his mother and Miquella's father, as well as the union between those two realms, (though Miquella seems to have pretty heavily divested himself of the Erdtree).
